A UNITED HEART

Psalms 86:11
11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
KJV

James said a double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

James 1:8
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
KJV

If this be the state caused by a double mind. What shall be the state of a double heart which has no fear, reverence,
or respect of God or His name? Will it not be one of the lusts of man tempted and drawn away into sin and the sin
conceived giving way to death or separation from God. For if God be not reverenced, or respected it will be the flesh
held in reverence and respect. And the works of the flesh reverenced and respected are found in Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you
in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. KJV

The fruit of the flesh declaring our state, if not openly for all to see then surely to the individual.
Is there any wonder that David prayed and asked God to unite his heart that he might fear him so he could live in
harmony with him. Did God unite David’s heart so he could fear him? Yes, for God said David was a man after his
own heart. Only a united heart captures the heart of God. Paul prayed this same prayer in different word in

Philippians 3:8-15
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for
whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of
Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made
conformable unto his death;
11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that
for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are
behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall
reveal even this unto you. KJV

A united heart will serve God completely. A divided heart will serve the flesh and proclaim service to God, lip service
only and a fall is eminent. Only the united stand for God in full fear.
Many say but I love God and I believe they do. Why then do they not serve him? They do not fear him. The love of
God is shed abroad in the heart of the believer at their new birth. The fear of God comes as we learn of and about
Him and walk in the light of His word. Thus you can love God out of what came with your new birth but you will not
fear Him because you know nothing of Him and it is what we know of Him that teaches us how to reverence and
respect Him. Fear is instilled of the word of God which allows us to know what pleases or displeases Him. Fear will
choose to please Him and be rewarded. On the other hand the lack of fear will choose to displease Him and receive
the consequence.

All you have to do to see this precept is to watch children where the fear of the parent has been instilled with the
love and wisdom of God and they say can't do that. I know my Dad and that won't work here, that is reverence. Then
there is the child where fear has not been instilled by the parent and to the parent with the love and wisdom of God
and anything goes. Either in secret or so much today blatantly and openly. That is lack of fear and where there is an
absence of the fear of God, there will be an absence of His presence and His blessings. We can have all the
speakers, programs, music and emotions we want but God will not show up because He is not reverenced.
The music and the musician get more reverence than the creator of the music and the musician.

So how does God unite our heart so we will fear him? The answer is found in the first line of this Psalm “teach me thy
way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth.” As I know you through your word O Lord I will reverence you because I now know
what pleases you. Jesus walked in full fear or reverence or respect of his Father for he said “these things I do
always that please the Father”. And there was never a time when the presence and blessings of the Lord was not
there with Jesus in the power of the Holy Ghost.

Is not the church ready for a united heart that fears God? A heart that seeks the fullness of God and not the fullness
of the flesh.
