Christian Duty

Galatians 6:1
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of
meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
KJV

Romans chapter 1 through chapter 2 deals with Christians who knew God and deliberately turned their back on
him to worship idols and walk in the perverseness of sin, it deals with the fact of their enjoyment of the sin as
well as the others who did the same thing, then it deals with the goodness that could bring those who had not
been given over to a reprobate mind back to God through repentance.

Galatians 6:1 deals with Christians who have been overtaken in sin. To be overtaken in sin is to be caught up in
sin with out premeditation, as to one fallen into a trap, one who wants to come back to God out of their love for
God, one who repents out of a broken heart and a broken and a contrite spirit, one who willingly repents with
out having the goodness of God beseeching him. An individual who did not have to be turned over to satan for
the destruction of the flesh. One who could be crushed beneath the load of guilt and condemnation satan will
put on him without the help of the church.
Paul calls the folk who will help this person spiritual, sounds like the person who goes above and beyond the
line of Christian duty, not so. He says you who are walking in love accept your Christian duty and do what the
love of God in you ought to do. So you look at this person who has repented and is being crushed beneath the
load of guilt and condemnation and say what would love do. Love would do the same thing for that person that
love did on the cross. It would reconcile and restore and if need be it would pay the price for restoration. Love
just does that. Love always has what is needed to pay the price. That is the love of God in you. This is what
makes it so different from human or physical love. So Paul says you who are walking in the love of God that has
been shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost, don’t let this repentant person go under, adjust and refit this
person back into their place in the body of Christ, back into the presence of the Father and do it gently and
humbly so as to be sure they receive no further damage and they sense your love and affection for them. And
another thing as you do this in all humility and lowliness of mind, receive this, what happened to this brother or
sister could happen to you. So take heed now lest when you stand you could fall. Restoration by the spiritual is
a safe guard against a possible fall in their own life. Because they are walking in the love of God and that love
always seeks to please the father and not the flesh.
