No Lack
Psalms 34:9-11
9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good
thing.
11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
KJV
We have in past devotions looked at reaping the blessing and supply of God, our need supplied
through his riches in glory by Christ Jesus, through tithe and offering in Malachi 3:8-11, walking in
purity and sanctification Psalms 84:11, and in remembering the poor Proverbs 21:13, meaning when
the poor cry for help and we do not render aid to them as we should. There will come a day that we
will cry for help and no one will hear us and render aid.
Then there is the text that we are looking at today and it concerns having no lack because of
reverencing the Lord. When he talks about the young lions lack he is talking about the strongest,
most bold and fearless of men living in lack because they do not reverence God. But they that seek
the Lord will not want any good thing. Only the saint of God that fears or reverences God will seek
God. Desiring his way of doing and being right. His perfect will. His purpose and plan. The others
follow the path that seemeth right to man but leads to death through lack of the will and purpose of
God.
David pleads with the saints of God to fear God which is reverencing God. David has learned the true
value of fearing the Lord. He said you shall not lack in any good thing. David lacked in nothing from
money to mercy. He did face hardships but overcame them through his fear of the Lord. Make a list of
the things you lack and let’s not leave it to include only things of monetary value. Let's include things
like a happy home, children who serve the Lord, peace and joy, a strong and happy marriage, a good
job with security, friends and fellowship, strong leadership qualities, excellent male or female roll
models. These are things beside money we can lack because we don't fear the Lord.
What is there in the saints of God that would cause them not to fear the Lord and live in lack? It is the
Adamic nature that lives in our flesh. We were truly born again in our spirit but not our flesh. And
there is a constant war going on as to whether we will fear the Lord or not, Paul speaks of this in the
fact that in Adam all die but in Christ all live. And in Romans 7:14-25.
Romans 7:14-25
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but
how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God;
but with the flesh the law of sin.
KJV
So is it not rightly in order that David says come and let me teach you the fear of the Lord in the
eleventh verse of our text. We are not born with the fear of the Lord at our birth in Christ. If we were
we would not need the five fold ministry for the perfecting of the saints. There is only one way to
teach the fear of the Lord to the saints and that is with the word of God. It is there that we learn how
to please him. Fearing him to obedience and having no lack.
When we know the fear of the Lord and do not walk in it. Our bringing displeasure to the Lord will
break our hearts. And we will repent. This is the sacrifice he will accept nothing less or more.
Learning the fear of the Lord is not hard but walking in what we have learned fearing the Lord will
always be a conflict between our spirit and our flesh. Thus we bring the flesh into submission and
walk in the fear of the Lord and suffer no lack. We will not be destitute in any area of our life.
Remember no want or lack to those who learn from the word of God how to walk in the fear of God
