Soul Saving
James 1:21
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is
able to save your souls. KJV
I call this a five word verse, even though it has more than five words there are five words that build the core of this verse for
me. They are filthiness, superfluity, naughtiness, meekness and engrafted. Three are our responsibility to do and two are for
receiving the word of God for the saving of our soul, not the saving of our spirit. James is writing to the blood bought church
and telling them how to save their soul, which is their mind, will and emotions. He is saying I want to tell you how to save your
thoughts from satans ideas and imaginations he would plant there. I want to show you how to set your will in line with the will of
God so He can put His mighty power behind you and put you over in life. And I want to show you how to stabilize your emotions
so you will not become a nervous wreck in this pressure filled life.
However you’re going to have to cooperate by doing something’s your self by the help of God's grace. First, you must lay side
all dirtiness of the spirit, the mind and the body. We will know what is dirty because the clean of God's word has revealed that
to us. If we did not know then He would not say lay it aside. So we can remain dirty or clean up.
Second, there is the badness, depravity, evil, malice and malignity that are flowing out of our life in superabundant measures.
One word says all that, naughty. You know what is naughty and not nice. No one has to tell you. James said to the church you
have been naughty in superabundance. If you want your soul saved, you by the help of God's grace are going to have to lay
these aside. There is one meaning of naughty that stands out here. It is malignant, meaning terminal. Lay aside naughtiness
before it becomes terminal and kills your soul. It will kill your soul because it is malignant. Naughtiness was not laid aside in the
first chapter of Roman's and it killed their soul!
Now that you have taken care of a couple of things I want you to start receiving the engrafted word of God with meekness, or
with an humble and mild spirit start receiving what is going to save your soul. Prideful people cannot receive the word of God
because it offends them and they will not be taught. Meek people can receive the word of God with out offence and be taught.
The word of God sometimes stings because it reproves, rebukes, disciplines and corrects when needed. Prideful people do
not like to be reproved, rebuked, corrected or disciplined, meek people do. So meekness is needed to save your soul. Then
there is the engrafted word. This is not a word of God you hear in passing but a word of God you specifically needed for the
saving of your soul. It becomes implanted into your thought pattern, instrumentally positioned in your vocabulary and actions
where it begins to germinate and produce God's way of thinking, His will being done and emotional stability under pressure
enabling you to reverse the pressure.
Wow your soul is now saved on a daily basis. Cooperating with your spirit and keeping the flesh which is weak under
submission, you are no longer carnally minded or body ruled by the flesh that dictates loss of God's blessings. Your soul and
spirit are now in agreement walking together and Jesus rules and reigns in your life.
Soul saving is important.
