What Does Your Job Mean To You
Proverbs 14:23
23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
KJV
What does your job mean to you? Is it just something you do to earn a living for your family? Is it a vocation you enjoy? Is it the
vocation God chooses for you? Are you happy with your job? Is it a joy to get up in the morning and go to work or is it a
dread? Are you making head way on your job? Are promotions coming and forth coming? Have you settled for what you have
because you did not think you could do any better? Did you take this job knowing you could have something better but you
would have to work harder and you just did not want to do that? Is your job enhancing your skills or demoting your skills?
These are all viable questions and one more question that should be answered. Did you pray about this job and did God
answer concerning it? Or maybe you just settled.
Proverbs 14:23 says two things worthy of mention and of thought. One thing is, the talk of the lips leads only to poverty or big
talk little do. I have heard people that could talk a good talk when it comes to vocations and how much money they could
make. To hear them talk they were rolling in the cash. In all reality they were living in abject poverty making excuses of why
they had not taken that million dollar job. And if their wife was not working and if they were not getting government aid they
would be on starvation. There is nothing wrong with a woman working. It is only wrong if she is working while her husband is
doing the big time talk. There is nothing wrong with drawing government aid if you are doing your best at what your working at
and not only talking. The talker instead of the worker is usually called slothful or lazy. There is a proverb for that.
Proverbs 19:24
24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
KJV
There are many more but that one should do. Now listen to the first thing this verse says.”In all labor there is profit" All labor
will bring some profit to your life. Well if all labor will bring profit to your life. What if you ask yourself those questions we listed
in the beginning of this writing? And what if we got God's answer and direction on each of them. Then there would be that
profit of more than enough. More than enough to do what you need to do. Have what you need to have and give what you
want to give.
That is the way God Operates. In the more than enough. There are many examples in the bible but lets just list one parable.
Matthew 25:14-30
14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them
his goods.
15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and
straightway took his journey.
16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.
19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five
talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee
ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two
other talents beside them.
23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler
over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where
thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and
gather where I have not strawed:
27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own
with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away
even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

They took the job they knew was theirs. Applied themselves, did what they knew to do and their profit was more.
